Looking for schematic or odd layout.
Hey all,
I'm looking for a Champ schematic, but I need something a little different.
I'd like to have a tube compliment of 2 - 6V6GT ; 1 - 5Y3GT; 1 - 12AX7. This is a junkyard amp.
Hoping there's something. Have no room for anything else.
Thanks in advance
Jac

Re: Looking for schematic or odd layout.
How about a Gibsonette circuit: 2 6V6s in parallel SE.jac wrote:Hey all,

You don't really need the second 5Y3.

But it is a very good idea if you are going to use a 40mfd filter cap, otherwise you'll be asking quite a bit out of a single 5Y3.You don't really need the second 5Y3.
But with 2 tube rect's in an se amp, you won't get any sag at all, so you could just go for solid state rectification... unless you need the voltage drop (which you almost always do with Hammond PT's, IME) in which case you could use a 5U4, which will handle a 40mfd cap.

thanks Tung for the Gibsonette, but is there a cleaner copy? I can't read that one.
I like the other ideas too. A plexi would be nice.
Are their any schematics for either ontariomaximus and/or Alexo's idea's/
More choices means more fun
Thanks
p.s. I do have some 6SL7's here, so that's not a problem

This schematic looks good (Thanks again S2), I'm going to use it.
Question though, (and boy it would be nice if it was bigger) The schem is looking for a 40uf/500 a 16uf/450v and another 16uf/450. So your saying to drop the 40uf to 20uf? Hmm... all I have is a 8uf, 10uf or a 22uf.
edit: and thanks Tung, you mentioned it at the start.

Okay so I place 3 - 22uf / 450's for the amp and use a 6SN7?.
Thanks.
By the way, how does it sound?
Here's a couple shots of the amp. The chassis wouldn't buff out, so I decided to paint her. Used automotive paint (of course, heat), very cool color turned out. Circuitry isn't in yet but I had to see what she'll look like when done. Should be able to complete tonight.

Yes. Use three 22uF 450V filter caps instead of what is shown and use a single 5Y3 rectifier instead of 2 in parallel.
You can use either preamp tube. I just wanted to experiment with the octal, so I did. It sounded really cool (fat!), but it has a gain structure similar to a 12AU7, so it is a lot cleaner than with a 12AX7.
Also, 6SN7s tend to be noisy and microphonic unless you can find a good RCA red base or the like.
