VJ Marshallized too bright (Bad Cat Mod?)

Post by Sully »

Hey Guys
I switched out R15 with 2- 33K resistors, and its still way too bright for me.
What would be my next step ?
Someone mentioned the Bad Cat mod ?, I looked in the repository and couldn't find anything. Any clues.
thanks ...sully

Maybe you can use the Excel viewer provided by MS. It's free and should work in any Windows setup (or.... the long story is that you don't use windows, ... then you must try another way indeed). You can just download it at MS

Take a look at http://www.schematicheaven.com/newamps/ ... inicat.pdf Note the 100k resistor and 2.2nF cap between the EL84 grid and ground. That's it.

I still find it strange that your amp is so awfully bright.... :?

Way too bright, I like a real dark, brooding crunch.

This is what was on the list,
Optional. This helps smooth off top end brightness. Shouldn't be required if R15 = 10k or more

My R15 is already 66K ??? ( I took 2 - 33K's and twisted them together)

Whats a guy to do, think I should do this mod too, or is there another way to go ?

thanks ...sully

When you say 'twisted them together', is that in parallel or series? 'Cause if its parallel you've actually made a 16.5k (product over sum).

Hey G
I'm not sure !
I took the 2 - 33K resistors, and put them side by side, twisted the leads together, tinned the ends, then soldered them to the posts, I'm not sure if this is parellel or series, I'm still green !

thanks ...sully
ps. I expected the difference to be more noticeable that what I heard.

You just did them parallel. You've got to tie them end to end instead (series).
