Brightness on JCM 800

Post by populartsl »

I've recently built a jcm 800 and i'm finding very bright i've read somewhere that removing the 500pf cap from the lo guitar input to the pre-amp volume could help. Any thoughts

Yes remove one of those. If you7 have a bright cap on the volume pot, remove that too. BUT, don't over do the mods. Try one at a time. If you remove too much brightness, you won't like that either.

The most common mod to JCM800s is to remove the bright cap from the volume control. A lot of people find just doing that is enough.

Also remember these amps were made to be played through closed back cabinets, which are quite a bit darker than open back configurations.
