The key to TONE

Post by AdamK »

I've finally found the key to killer tone. This is a must have for anyone who is serious about their amps. I've put them on every amp I own, and the difference is HUGE! Can you say TONE!?

But keep this secret link to yourself, we don't want everyone knowing the magic tricks of the professionals!

Hey Adam! Good one! Just like the wooden knobs...

Read that line: "Patented Tricormaxialâ„¢ design for crisp, clean signal transfer"...

Ahem... since when do we have "signal" in the power stage? or is this some sort of guitar cord?

gab.

I think it's just a normal IEC power cord. There is some amazing crap out there.

I want to know who talked that distributor into buying a few containers of these POS's. There's the real talent.

Adam
Great stuff! I love this kind of rubbish!
I have a friend (and demon bassplayer) who takes all that stuff very seriously indeed. When we ridicule him, we are challenged with the 'so you know better than these people, I suppose?' defence. He buys anything expensive that says it'll improve his sound. When I tell him that 'root and fifth sounds pretty damned good on any old sh*tty gear' I am liable to have to duck to avoid flying inanimate objects.
If you bought him a bottle of snake oil, he'd fry his sausages in it before you could say 'victim' - and insist they taste better than extra-virgin  .
Anyway - my mains cables give off a better class of 50Hz hum than his :listen:
Your cloth-eared friend, Colin

"""the performance these cables bring to your audio systems at a fraction of the cost of most other high end cables! """"

I want to see the high end jobbies..they compare to.

wonder what a fraction of 400+ dollars is compared to most other high end cables.
I can see that ad now..

Don't spend your money on those cheap 400.00 cables.. spend 4000.00 on our cables. The sound that only you can hear.
Cha-ching is what i hear..lol

Thats some hefty bucks for some fake mojo.

A couple of famous quotes come to mind

1) "A fool and his money are soon parted." (Shakespeare I think.)

2) "There's one born every minute." (A sucker according to P.T. Barnum.)

I'm a little surprised a generic electronics parts supplier like Parts Express has this kind of thing. I don't imagine too many audiofools are shopping there.

I sometimes do installation work for a company that sell "Audiophile" accessories and you would not believe the sh*t that's out there. I was looking at a catalog that had digital cables going for $10,000 for a 2 meter length. Yes, that's right, $10,000! Some people have nothing better to do with the wheelbarrows full of money laying around their house I guess. The best part is when they do some listening sessions with the various cables. It's definately "The Emperors New Clothes" type moment. We had some engineers at the studio where I worked who were into the beyond monster cable thing too and all the techs laughed except one guy who started making the stuff himself and selling it. Maybe this is his company.

I did notice a slight difference when I hooked up my new $495 cable but
then it could have been the new eL84s or the $999 extension cable. Hard
to say really, could be the new picks I'm using. Anyhow they've virtually lifetime failure-free, which is almost a lifetime. But then I can't recall if I've
ever had a problem with kettle/computer cable. At least I'll have 'good tone' now. Maybe.

Quoted from the ESP website

"The patent system does not require that the invention actually works, or is of any benifit"

So their patent means jack schitt. I cannot believe people are allowed to sell that stuff. Its people who buy things like that that give Hi-Fi a bad name. I've got a no-name turntable at the moment. Im sure that if I spend £10,000 I can get my records to sound better. Hell no, all that the turntable has to do is go round levelly at a steady speed. Yet I bet someone has fallen for that somewhere...

Sheesh...

Hi,

Well, different power cables do make a difference. I didnt believe it either at first that it'd be significant. But a Hi Fi friend showed me, and my ears bore witness.

I am not saying it justifies the prices most of these "upgrades" go. Most of the time, the material difference is not much at all in terms of cost, and could be built by DIYers easily.

A good example is speaker cable. The CAT5 network cable can be made into good speaker cables. Well, at least for Hi Fi. Costs peanuts, yet beat some of the branded names...

Caveat: Tone is subjective...

Being DIYers, we are more astute from falling into these gimmics and such..

Thanks!

Nik
