All of Eminence's Redcoat range are better than their F*nder OEM speakers. I wouldn't want to use of those with a Marshall 18W type amp.

Yes indeed.
The cause of most of my surprise at the 10" performance resulted because even with that 10" speaker the results were still good in comparison with commercially available amps and very different from the 12". Probably a badly made point in my first post.
It made me draw breath and think about the options other than just inside the amplifier.
More research is called for I think before I opt for the longer term speaker solution.
