Newbie - Thinking of trying to build 18watt 1-12 combo

Hello everyone I'm new and just saying hello. thinking of a 18 watt 1-12 combo build, like others I'm tired of not getting the sound I like and paying through the nose to not be happy. I don't know much. I can follow direction and can solder and that is about it. I'm in the in vestigating mode. I'm located in Upstate NY. I did see one builder using what looked like a colored vinyl template for his build. OK Suggestions and thoughts you all may have. artgtr
