Generally depends what music you prefer and listen, I like sixties (british) music and I like how celestion gold behaves with my 18w.
Here is clip, the gold is first (10hours of playing on it, so this one is practically new)
Alnico Gold 12''/50W vs Goodmans ceramic 12''P-G/ 50W

So I guess that it's probably related to other factors like speaker cab, as well as type of guitar and amp, plus we mustn't forget human subjective factors. :)
It would definitely be boomy in a closed back cab. I think most guys using and reporting on these are the 4x12 Plexi crowd. To me, pretty much ANY speaker with a reasonable amount of bass response in a closed back cab will sound boomy at certain frequencies (unless the cab is properly tuned to work with the speaker's specs).

By the way, the actual published resonance of the G12H-70th is 85 Hz (http://professional.celestion.com/guita ... c.asp?ID=7), which is in guitar frequencies. Also remember that the resonance peak spreads a few Hz in each direction. I'm sure the 55 Hz cone speakers don't have a 55 Hz resonance either, but it should be lower than 80 Hz.

Oh, now you tell me!

Not that it matters all that much, cuz the fancy speakers were always part of the plan for this particular fancy amp project, anyway. And now it's finally
"there", so I'll most likely be doing the bargain hunting thing next time around at Warehouse Speakers or whatever.

zzz huh? Could you repeat that? Seriously, though. I wasn't aware that Celestion built their own factory over there. Probably explains why they can get speakers built, while Epiphone has been struggling for two years to get their Valve Senior amp beyond the vapor-amp stage and out to market. Chinese products really ain't that bad unless there's kids or critters to chew on 'em. And they have been known to make a pretty decent sounding tube now and then. Still, I do plan to avoid Chinese sheetrock for a while longer.

Woah! 8O 8O 8O I badly love those Goodmans! I'll look for more samples out there. maybe I'll go for these instead of Celestions in the end. That's the kind of solid mids I'm after and hardly ever get. Thanks!

I bought a G12M 20w T1221 from April '66 and tested it in my 1974x.
That was a lot closer to the sound I was looking for,
than with the G12M it came with.
