Rectifier tube

Post by Rockn »

Are there any other rectifiers that will work well as a replacement for the EZ81 with about the same or better characteristics? I am just wondering since I have a bunch of 5Y3GT rectifiers laying around.

Also is there any spec sheets for what you can expect for a rectified voltage for a given input? I have lots of mismatched stuff laying around to Frankenstein together something.

The 5Y3 should work ok.

As far as spec sheets, there's a bunch of tube specs on-line. Another great option is to go to Duncanamps.com and get the TDSL Tube amp database program. It has 1000s of tube specs in a searchable DB.

The 5Y3 will give you a lot more sag (about twice as much) than the EZ81. To my ears, that's a bad thing. I believe the 5V4 is the closest of the commonly available octal rectifiers to the EZ81.
