best repro cab and cloth for model 1974
I want to gig and studio-rent my original model 1974 2X12 18 watt combo more, so I am having a repro cab made. Any suggestions for best materials, cloth , tolex, hardware, etc. ? Maker? I am also wondering why I see few builders reproducing the 1974 2X12, the more desirable and beefy 18 watt combo version. This 1974 is out of a Hollywood studio rental, and was the favored amp on the first Eric Johnson records out of LA. I have dimensions if anyone is interested in building this cab. [/img]

Swanson and StageCraftGear are the two top shelf cab builders I have experience with, and they both do exceptional work. Don't know if they have that particular grill cloth, though.

Eeek! There's that rare rubberized grill cloth again! There is someone making that stuff again, but he's hyping it up and charging an arm and two legs for it. Better sit down for this one.

That's a 20W, not an 18W. Note the solid-state rectifiers.
It also looks like someone did a hack job on the circuit since I don't see how you can have two channels, tremolo, and a LTPI with only two preamp tubes (and why is there an empty hole?). Or maybe it's a 10W converted to run EL84s? I'm not up on all the variations, but it seems this isn't an original 18W.

The RS ? holeboard is only 24 ? holes long X 7 wide.
18 watts were 27 X 7.
Didn't come from a guitar shop in the North of England did it ?

The 2-12" amp is a 1973. The 2-10" is a 1958. Yours is none of the above but probably sounds great!Boneshaker wrote:I want to gig and studio-rent my original model 1974 2X12 18 watt combo more, so I am having a repro cab made.
