protective grill / grill mesh available Lowes or HomeDepot ?

Post by zappacat »

Is there a product at Lowes or HomeDepot that's suitable for protecting the speaker front without effecting the sound ? Seems to me like screen window material wouldn't be a bad choice.

What do you guys use to attach this grill / grille / mesh / screen ?

I just bought a roll of hardware cloth for just that purpose. It's kind of like chicken wire (in the same section), but has heavy guage wire in a grid pattern with about 1/2 inch squares.

I was thinking of drilling it to a thin wood frame that I can remove. I may place something between the hardware cloth and frame to prevent rattling (maybe rubber or foam insulation), and may stretch some fabric over that too (just for looks). Haven't quite figured out the details, but it's strong stuff and holds it's shape when you bend it.

Not necessarily Home Depot but I've used Burlap before. I just wrapped it around the edge of the baffle stapled it to the back. In my case the burlap was from an old seed bag, but you can get it at fabric stores and probably most DIY/Garden stores.

Here's a pic of the speaker cab I used it on.
