Single Speaker Recommendations for a 36 watt Plexi Clone??

Post by mdortona »

I plan to use this with a 1x12 closed back cab. The amp was made by Thomas Ampworks and has a Plexi front end with a 36 watt power section using 2 EL84s and a PPIV Master volume.

What do you wise folks recommend?? All I'm looking for is the "classic 70's" Marshall rock sound (Bad Company/Frampton/Zep/Allman Bros/KISS).

Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks!

You mean 4 EL84s?

I'd recommend the Warehouse (WGS) Reaper HP or the Eminence Wizard for what you've described.

Krx,

What a maroon! Yes, make that 4 El84's  Thanks for the suggestions too!

I thinking about going with Warehouse's Reaper HP 50 watter. Now, should I be going for the 55 hz or the 75 hz model? Why or why not? Thanks again!

For a single speaker, I'd definitely go for the 75 Hz cone. It's your standard sound. The 55 Hz cone is much darker and thicker.

55Hz is great with bright amps. Tames the ice pick and adds some girth in the low-mids.
