New 36 watt radio interference

Post by POWDOG »

Hey guys. Working on my 36 watt EF86 again. The EF86 channel sounds amazing, very quiet and punchy as hell. The TMB channel however has some problems. It sounds great playing, but has a volume dependent background HUM and is picking up a radio station, which becomes more pronounced with GAIN. Ideas? Thanks!

Since it varies with the gain level it's getting in somewhere ahead of that stage. i.e. nearer the input. Check (especially) your grounding connections in the first stage (preamp) as well as wire length and routing around there.
