heathkit tc3

Post by geoff 1965 »

just servicing my heathkit tube checker new capacitors and kiwame precision resistors, came to check the rectifier diode and i'm getting same ac votage on both sides! so replacing it with a 3amp 1000V UF5408.just out of interest has anyone come across one of these old rectifiers? reference on the schematic is M1 and if you look at the pic it's between the red & yellow wires and looks like a stack of washers!

Not sure you should replace it. Here's a discussion about it...

Thank's for the link Jack, yeah i swapped in a silicon diode and now the meter does’nt work! Those copper washers must form some resistance or something,i’ll put the original back.made the mistake of taking the symbol on the schematic as diode also the build manual only describes it as “meter rectifier” with no specs, lesson learned!
