Correct OT winding Ratio or impedance for 36 Watt build.

Post by RCP1 »

Hi all. Getting the parts together for my first 36W style build. I have a lot of power and OT transformers. What I need help with is the winding Ratio or impedance for 4x EL84 or 6V6's.
For El84 the tube data sheet says "Effective Load resistance Plate to-Plate" = 8,000 ohms (for 2 tubes) in class AB1.
The 6V6 says 10,000 ohms for 2 tubes in PP.
Can someone please tell me how to calculate the load for 4 tubes (EL84 or 6V6 or both) in class AB1 operation?
Thanks.
Rob.

The 6V6s and EL84s will both work well with 8K plate-to-plate in AB1. For a quad, you simply halve the impedance. Most manufacturers use 3.8K or 4K for this purpose.
