Voltage gain of the 12AX7 LTP is about 25; the 6J6 would be roughly half that. However, the Marshall 36W has a huge amount of excess gain, and a 6dB loss in this area probably wouldn't be missed. I'm already using the FX loop with a patch cable "permanently" installed so I can reduce the gain with the Send pot. The High gain input is just too much for use at home. If I ever build another amp, it will be low power (< 5W) with many changes from the 36W I just completed. The 6J6 would be one of them.zaphod_phil wrote: ↑Tue 05/04/21 9:34 amNever heard of those, but that sounds like a great suggestion! However I wonder if their gain level is quite the same as a 12AX7..TriodeLuvr wrote: ↑Mon 05/03/21 3:25 pmI'm surprised no one is building with the 6J6 for the LTP. They're plentiful, cheap, and balance between sections is usually terrible.
