Here's a crappy Phone recording of it with the Celestion Alnico Cream

That sounds great! Nice crisp high-end, almost good enough to be a Marshall 18W :) Just one question, what were you driving the input with to get that nice breakup?

It's just my jazzmaster with a P90 bridge pup and the amp at 100%, both channels in parallel.
The amp is merely an addition to my rig.. ain't no chance it's going to replace my Tremolo TMB. It's not THAT good πŸ˜‰
What puzzles me is why a 20Watt fixed bias amp is not as loud as an 18W cathode biased one... same speaker.. guess it's the extended dynamics of the 18W
The 6G3 does what it does, and puts down a terrific sound. The 18W is more inpredictable and can surprise me in very nice ways. I guess the 6G3 is male and the 18W female... sexism??? Sew me... #met'oh-well

You seem to have a pretty hot P90 there! :)

I think it's probably more because the cathode-biased 18W compresses the sound more, which will tend to make it sound louder

I think it's more likely due to the fact that the cathode-biased 18W compresses the sound more, which makes it sound as if it's louder. :D

The 6G3 is more of a home player. It's creamier than my 18 watts.. not as crisp anyway. But I added a larmar PPIMV to it and it really sounds great with it. I'm trying that in one of my 18 watts too. Maybe I like it.. probably not.

You seem to betting plenty of drive out of that P90. Have you ever tried connecting it in series with the original F*nd*r pickup?

What in series? Amp channels or pickups ?
BTW.. I don't have any F*nder pickups..πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

Ok.. I found out why my 6G3 wasn't as loud as my 18 watters...even with the 100dB alnico cream
I had an oscillation on V2. I put a 10pf cap across the plates of V2 and the oscillation was gone.. and the amp was instantly a LOT louder...
I found out about the oscillation when I dimed the tone knob of the bright channel. Buzzzzzzz!!! Can I consider this solved? The gain of volume indicates the oscillation is gone now, no?

I wonder.. isn't a grid stopper the better solution?
