Marwatt, anyone?

Just doing some amp surfing and wondered if anyone's built the Marwatt 18-watt Hiwatt build on this site?

Yes, but not in a long time, unfortunately. :(

For a less eardrum-bursting Hiwatt style amp build ,I would suggest Trinity'sTriwatt. Just note that the Triwatt has a completely Hiwatt DR type vibe, not Marshall 18W.

Thanks for the recommendation. That looks like an up-to-50W build with those KT66. I was able to find a file dump site with a "V.1" schematic as well as a "V.5" chassis drill guide. Any knowledge of whether a V5 schematic is out there? Thanks, Phil.

Well, that's a kit purchased. Looks like fun.

Fun indeed, but not recommended for novice builders! :)
I always go to Trinity's site for the latest docs - http://www.trinityamps.com/docs/TriwattSchematic.pdf

I've also used a KT66 build as a small bass amp :) Some people have been known to run EL34s in a Triwatt, with some tweaking of B+ and bias voltage. For regular guitar, I prefer the standard 20W 6V6 version. It still makes your ears ring! 8O
From here on, I guess we will need to move this thread to a different forum on the site

I see that's another one of your designs. ;)

Hey Josh, off topic but I'm building an amp using a very old power transformer with cloth leads. I've just discovered my thermal stripper can burn through the cloth and the inner PVC simultaneously. No more struggling to get a clean strip on cloth wire! hurray

That's awesome! And it kinda makes sense. Some cloth wire needs the edges burnt to not fray.

Thanks,
Josh
