BTW- I'm curious. If you take that same 20' cable, mark one side amp, and one side guitar. Then make sure the shield is only connected to the amp side ground. I wonder if that would cure the problem. (it probably doesn't matter which side it's connected to, as long as it's only one side)

Solved! I tidied everything up, put the chassis back in the amp and played for an hour without any issues. I am finally at peace. Thanks again for working through this with me.
