Voco vvr

Post by chaliapin »

Anyone tried this yet or familiar with it from the tube town forum?

https://www.tube-town.net/cms/?DIY/Amp- ... ge_Control

I searched the forum but none seem to have used it. Thinking for my 36w lite maybe in combination with mv type 2 or the drive control mod.

Any thoughts?

I've built it in an amp once.. wasn't impressed. It is a G2 controller.. so only scales the voltage on the control grid. IIRC

Thanks bieworm, you REALLY don't want to use vvr do you! I'll leave off it till it's all working and then I might try the ampmaker one then.

I'm not saying you shouldn't, but the VoCo has 2 options...

Downscale G2 only, which is crap, and there is NO gradual sweep. The OD is not nice on low setting. Think bees in a jar...
Scale down the entire amp. For a nice vvr you want only the power amp an PI scaled, with preamp running on full voltage. To make such a circuit you need to be pretty qualified at adding filter caps and branching off stuff. Geoff and Dd could help you out. If you want this it's best to add the turrets or real estate NOW. Its a hard retrofit thing.

You'd be better off with a good attenuator if you want the EL34 glass to saturate. Josh designed his Break Wind attenuator for this.
