Advice for a 18w build (EF86 with trem?)

Post by Piamp »

Hi guys!
All the best for 2023 :D

I have a 18w project on the bench, i'm using an old PA system so here's what i'v got :

310V CT secondary
6.3V secondary
2xEL84 slots
3xpreamp tube slots

only 4 knobs on the front

Any idea of what i should buid?
one channel is enough.

Having only 4 knobs that could be:
EF86 input with one tone knob and trem
12AX7 input with one tone and trem ?
i can't find a schematics for that kind of arrangement ?

Hey… I forgot to respond to your question…
I would propose, since you’ve got the luxury of having 3 preamp tubes to spend on a single channel amp, to build the tremolo tmb without tmb .. but a single tone knob. That’s a pretty easy mod to the existing Tremolo TMB amp. But you’ve only got 4 knobs… if it were me, I would do this: volume-gain- tone- intensity .. and do the speed on a 3 way toggle switch. Or a speed knob with a 3way intensity switch. That would make a pretty driven preamp and a nice version of this circuit…

Thanks,

i think i'll try a 18W plexi because i have 2 volume sliders hooked to weirds 1M pots that i cannot change, and 2 sliders for bass and trebble (hooked to pots i can change)
I'll go for a fixed medium resistor value.
and put a PPIMV master volume at the back of the amp
