Best 18 watt OT
Hi all
Thank God I do have a couple of 8k-into-8 ohms OTs lying around but I'm looking for some great OTs for EL84s and 6V6s . OEI does make excellent OTs for 2xEL34/KT66 and 4xEL84 but I'm looking for GREAT EL84/6V6 OTs . What about EMC and Heybour ?
I'm located in the Netherlands , Europe so I hope some fellow amp-builders can comment on this , it's pretty hard to find really good OT-builders over here .
tia !

Mercury Magnetics makes some really nice OT's. I liked the Heyboer fine but it lacked any real headroom. These amps are not very loud in a gigging situation. The multi tap MM Radio Spares 045RS jumps the amp up a notch. It kills in an 18 watter. Less clog, more tone, headroom, harmonic content and dynamics. You can actually push the amp without stuffing it with a sock. Not spot on the original tone... better for my needs!

Have a look at the other recent thread on this very same topic, http://www.18watt.com/modules.php?name= ... opic&t=304PaisleyAmps wrote: I'm looking for GREAT EL84/6V6 OTs . What about EMC and Heybour ?
Hammonds are available from various distributers in Europe. Graydon will happily ship Heyboers to Europe, but they are quite expensive. I haven't seen any A/B comparisons between any of the North American and European built ones. It's a strange irony that the original transformer everyone wants to copy was a UK product.
