I wanna build the "RICH AMP"

Post by mightymike »

Hi all. First post here. Heard the clips of this AMP at the Metroboards.
Wow what a Killer amp. I'm sold

Which Trannys/choke, power tubes, and chassis do I need to get started?
If anybody has a parts list, please share. I'll have the board ready soon. I'm having it staked.

If you go back through the threads you'll find what you need.

Thanks everyone for the help. Yes I would like to see a parts list. I apprecitrate the offer. No, this isn't my first kit. Sorry for not replying right away. I've had my hands full finishing up a 68 spec 100 Watt Metrokit with MM and NOS Mustards. (Stil tweaking and learning how to record clips on my comp, but that's another thread) So no; this isn't my first kit, but it will be my first "alacart" kit where I made a list, and ordered everything exactly the way I want it, instead of getting someone elses pre gathered kit like Metropolis, Hoffman, or Graydon. (Whom I have nothing but good things to say about btw.) Especially Metropolis!

Here's a link to my own little parts list with notes:
http://uploads.bestupload.com/redir/5002.txt
It's a work in progress. So if you see any mistakes; feel free.

I have a lot of the common parts in my bins, like Sozo Mustard caps, mix and input resisters ect.... I already have the board staked, but I'm considering a different design/board length if it will make it so I can fit the .0047uf Vol Cap, .01uf Tone Cap,and the (4) 68k resistors on the board. (They look lonely just hanging out there with no support) I might have to move the biggest Elctrolitic on the Board, to the chassis to do it.
It's not really important to do this, but I just thought it would make the layout look more solid and cleaner, and a new board is no problem. As long as there is room. This will be a 50 watt size chassis. It will fit the 50 watt Head Box. I plan on Using Sprague Electrolitics, a 250pf Mica , and a 47pf Mica. Nothing is set in stone, except the chassis and panels which I have already ordered. (Edited in Italics)
I have the Chassis and Panel already on Order from Nik at Ceritone. I noticed from Mykers pic on the link that there was no hole for the 32uf/32uf that goes between the rectifier and V7 on the layout diagram. What's up with that? Did he move it? Doesn't look like there's much room for it there. Where'd you put your 32uf/32uf Myker?

Thanks,
Mike

In my amp, which is a head version, the cap is mounted like the old marshall style..along the side of the inside underneath of the chassis,on the power supply end..

I'm trying to picture that :?

Which Brand did you use for elctrolitics.
Which trannys did you use.
Where did you mount the 32uf/32uf?

"""Which Brand did you use for elctrolitics.

The Electro in this amp power section is an RS rasdiospares 32x32
the rest are F&T snd sprague etc bypass caps.

The trannys are the latest upgraded heyboer 36 set..PT,OT and choke..thre numbers have been posted in the 36 section..
You can see in the last pic the best how the cap is mounted.. The early marshalls, and some other amps used this mounting..

Hope this helps..I know a pic is better than words sometimes..:)

Holy ****! 8O Beautiful on the inside too. Nice Amp

I see now what you're saying about mounting the cap on the side. That telflon wire makes it so you can really twist those heater wires tight. Bet that really helps keep the noise down.

I was going to use SOZO,but I do have enough NOS Mustards to build it just like yours too.

I got a set of Heyboer tranny numbers off Myker. The reason I was asking is because I remember reading somewhere about your amp, or someones 36 watt amp was using an AC30 OT.

So looks like I'm set.

Thanks a million.

As you can see, i still have a ways to go on it..But it is coming along.. i thought i'd try all the NOS stuff, and see how this one turns out sounding.
I had to move this one to the side, till i got some other amps done..

Are the 82ks Grounded on that lug?
Were any of the elctrolitics NOS?
Were those Resistors NOS?
WHich Tubes did you use?

There is only one 82k and it is a plate resistor.. plus i don't have the grounds wired in yet..

Most of the electrolitic are new..
Most of the resistors are NOS..
I have some GE and Sylvainia i'm going to try for the EL84s..
the recto will be a JJ..and haven't decided yet on the preamp tubes..as i am pretty picky with those,no matter what brand is used.

I'm surprised there hasn't been any mention on the new updated 36 watt layout. Nik from Ceriatone sent me it. A few changes were made, nothing to big. Here it is:

I'm talking about on pin 2 of the power tubes. The layout shows 4 of them. They connect to pin2 and are comnnected to a terminal. I was just wondering if that was a grounded terminal
