R29 and R17 on Gabi and Richie's layouts

Post by dboul »

Hey Gabi and Richie,

I'm a little confused.

I've noticed that there is a discrepancy between Gabi's and Richie's layout docs.

On Gabi's R29 is connected to C15

and on Richie's R29 is connected to R17.

Looking through the photo galleries, it looks like R29 is wired to C15. Am I missing something? :? :? :? I'm sort of green at building from scratch, so pardon my questions if they are silly.

Before I get to the last stage of my first 18 watter, I want make sure I'm on the right path here.

Can you guys help me?

Hi Dan...

Thanks for asking that. It is good to have people checking things out.

That was one of my puzzles a when I'build mine too.

1. PedalMonkey schem ( http://www.18watt.com/storage/Marshall_ ... c_Rev5.gif ):
R29: one side goes to C12/C15. the other to ground.

2. My layout ( http://18watt.com/storage/18watt%20Layout%20Gabi.pdf ):
R29: same thing.

3. "Richie's Layout". If you mean this layout here: http://18watt.com/Storage/18watt%20Layo ... Durham.jpg
then it is the same thing:
R29: one side goes to C12/C15 - and the other - indeed - to R17... but in fact that goes to the ground.

I know it is confusing because it looks the other way around. I had to take a couple of close looks too...

Let me know if this clears things out...

gabi.

Thanks Gabi!

Yeah, I was really scratching my head last night. The board I purchased had Richie's Layout and I switched R29 to your layout after looking at the pics of the originals in the galleries. I'm assuming that was okay? There's no other change I need to make?

Since this is my first 18 watt circuit, I'm being a little over cautious I guess.

Thanks for your understanding response!

Dan

What board layout are you using?

The same as in Durham's Layout: http://18watt.com/Storage/18watt%20Layo ... Durham.jpg

or

this one (mine):
http://18watt.com/storage/18watt%20Layout%20Gabi.pdf

A thing that helped me out, was sitting with the computer in front of my nose while I was soldering my board. This way I had access to the gallery images to compare, between different builds, etc.

I have a board from Ceria tone and it's a beautiful board, expertly assembled with no problems at all. I guess he just used the alternate layout. Hey if it works, I don't care!

But, yes I have my laptop on the workbench and I've printed out your layout very large, pedal monkey's schematic, Richie's layout, my transformer layouts and I have a some color printouts of a few different boards taped on the walls around my bench. My wife laughs everytime. It looks like a teenager's room!

I really appreciate your help! :D

Then you should be set. Nik does outstanding boards.

I mean... no wrinkle, no belly, etc. LoL...

Indeed, Nik's the best! I'll post some pictures soon of the revised board and the "shop"

I didn´t run into any problems cause I skipped the trem circuit :P
Just checked Attilio´s layout (18wattRevAttilio.jpg) and it looks right. R29 goes to the same ground connection as R17. :)

Checked Richies18wLayout.jpg, too. And, it looks slightly different, but there is no wrong connection, though. :) The 470k resistor (R29) just goes to a separate ground.

If there should be anything wrong, I´ll most probably stumble over it when I build my 18 watt head. :)

Dan!

Yes! post pics of your board and sorroundings.

This reminds me that I have to re-enable the attachment features on this forums... That might take some time...

Yes I will. I'll put some pics of myself up there as well. I'm curious about what everyone looks like. It would be good to associate faces with names. Especially since we will all have booths at the NAMM show in a couple of years!!

But, thanks for checking into my quesion guys. Wannatone points out the obvious that I missed last night when I was too tired to think straight. They R29 and R17 just share a ground and are not in series. Thanks Wannatone and Gabi!!
