trance: I am making a layout from this schematic, here, on my own, I've done the pre-amp, and Im checking the power amp for stupid errors. I am going to share what I've done here, so other people dont have to rip their hair out over maing a layout :)

My opinion on the best marshall ever: Well, the 2000 is my favroit, but that aside, Its gotta be the 2205 or the 2203. I haven't decided. I toyed with the idea of making one of those, but I decided not because:
a) I cant be bothered making a PCB valve amp. Yet.
b) Reverb is something I dont want to include in my amps, again, yet.
Although, I have opt'd to make the design of this one better. By using mesa style opto Isolators, make a foot switchable channel, with independent tone stack (yay!! plenty of mods in here, me thninks :), and, in my amp, you will no longer have to use matched pairs, thanks to individual biasing, and, the actual process of biasing will be alot eaiser, with them pesky op-amps, so you can just have an LED to indicate if your tubes are gonna burn up, or if they are to cold. but, Im having difficulty with that part as, Im having difficulty finding a voltage comparitor that doesn't mind ~50v in its inputs :/
Anyway, Im close to being done, and I'll let you know when I am....

hey man. i think ill be joining you in your 2204 venture.

im searching hihg and low for good chassis pics to work on a layout with.. but w/ the partial PCB build i dont think itll be easy.

Also what trannies are you thinking about using? i have a Marshall 9005 50/50 power amp w/ Drake 784-139 OTs in it.. ive seen a pic of a 2204's OT and it had a Drake 784-139/3 in it.. i gotta figure out what the difference is. If i can use them i might salvage this power amp.. it only has 1 PT, but from there out its pretty much two 2204 power amp sections as far as i can tell. i could use an OT, maybe the PT, an LCR cap can and probably other stuff too. i could almost build two of em if i had another PT.

i gotta figure out if tid be smarter to salvage or sell this power amp tho..

Mark Huss has some pics on his site of a clean amp he has.. his link is here somewhere..

And if your looking for a board for one of these amps..or to make a copy..You might e-mail Andy Fuch.. he builds his own amps, and modifies amps. he used to sell box fulls of old boards and left over parts, he took out of amps..He used to make his own a boards for the amps..and would put them in a marshall ,bassman whatever..
But he might have some 2203 or 2204 boards sitting around.
When you get the board..you can put it in a copy machine, and make a PC pattern to go by..
just a thought..

hey people, I've been away for a while, cuz my PC aint workin, and I had trouble getting the net to work on this laptop. but anyway. Im gettin the trannys and stuff from ampponents.co.uk and Im thinking about blue tolex (I love the look of it) I looked at some of my mods, and I thought about it for a while. I decided not to add, for the moment, but Im gonna drill an extra hole for another 12ax7, to leave some room for other mods at a later date. The only thing Im leavin in is individual bias'ing, and if I can get some 0-60ma meters, I'll be addin them in to (im to lazy to use a multi meter, and risk getting shocked :P) anyway, I'll have my stuff scanned in tomorow, or tuesday. depends on certain things.
IM glad to see someone else wanting to do this, and I think once we've done it, more people will want to build there own peice of marshall history :)
so, I'll speek to you all later.

no, as of yet, I have no chassis. This is mainly due to the fact that I cant find anywere in the UK that will make me one for a reasonable price. Im reluctent to make one, BUT, in case I do need to, www.tonepad.com has a photo tutorial on how to do it. It was easier with the hi-octane because I found it in a 2nd hand guitar shop from that the dude had got from some practice amp or smnt. oh well.

dc_danman, i think ive found a pretty good source for 2204 clone chassis, plexi panels, and boards for a good price if youre interested. i dunno if itd be worth your while to ship over seas or not tho.

you can email me at dsdurusk@ncsu.edu if youre interested.

Get in touch with Nik of www.ceriatone.com He can probably send you a chassis over from Malaysia, probably for less than it would cost you in the UK. While you're at it, he can also supply you the board and a kit of all the passive components for less then you could source them locally - and all high quality parts too (Sprague, Mallory, carbon films, etc).

Nik even did a stainless steel chassis for one guy!

I normally use Mozilla or Netscape 7.1 and today those are showing the same problem. James (aka English Jim) must be doing something to his web site...
