I'm very new here so please be kind on me

Forgive me if I am asking questions here that have been asked hundreds of times....

I really like the idea of the 18watt lite, with the TMB tone stack, but also love the idea of having the 36watter too.

Ideally, what i have in my head would be the single channel 18watt lite circuit with the TMB tone control, but having the output section from the 36watt with a switch to reduce the output down to 18.

Is this possible?

Also, I live in the UK, and was wondering whether anyone here had any recommendations for transformer suppliers this side of the pond.
It would be nice to get in a Heyboer set, but i fear shipping may be crippling.

For the 18watter there is "www.ampmaker.com" of Barry aka "loverocker". I ordered the 18watt OT from him and it sounds great! Also he is very helpful and answered all my questions. But I don't know if he offers anything for the 36watter...

I ordered some other things off him for my degree project, and he was very helpful.
His transformers are very reasonably priced indeed, and you say they sound great!

I think i might scrap the 36w idea and just go for the 18 in that case.

Jamesy - you've described a 36W version of the 'SuperLite 18W'. This was a Lite where the two preamp stages were cascaded for more gain and with a TMB tone stack driven from the plate of the second stage (instead of the full TMB version which uses an extra valve to get a cathode-driven tone stack).

Here's a thread all about it: http://www.18watt.com/modules.php?name= ... ic&t=10616 A few people here have successfully built the SuperLite and it would be pretty easy to adapt the layout of the SuperLite to work with 4 EL84s.

Hmmmm... interesting.

That'll be more Fendery (TMB placed between the first two stages) than the SuperLite version (TMB between the second stage and PI).

The preamp is more or less copied off of Marks Huss's version. Just trying to keep the number of tubes to a minimum.

I haven't seen Mark Huss' version, but just to clarify - a SuperLite 36W wouldn't require an extra valve either.

If I am not mistaken, The GZ34 Rect tube is labeled incorrectly? The Filaments should read 2 & 8 not 4 and 8?

An idea I have been considering is to use a 12dw7 for v1, the second stage using the 12au7 half to drive a cathode follower TMB. I am curious if this will yield a more marshall tone without overdriving the 18watt powersection?

I'm loving some of the ideas so far.
Loverocker: Will these 36W transformers you are getting in be good for this job. When will you be getting some in, and do you know how much for yet?

I'm guessing it wouldnt be too hard to change around the pre-amp design with elements of other designs on this site any way.

I'm really starting to like the idea of Richie's full TMB design with the TMB and normal channels.
I'd really like to take that design as it is, but use the 36W power section.

I was also thinking though, instead of having the two seperate input jacks, would it be possible to use a single one, and then switch between the channels with a relay switch?

Yes, I don't know for sure, but s2 may be able to help you there, or you can get a kit from the one who shall remain un-named, that's the easiest way to do it, with a pre-made relay board, it has the power supply on-board and it pretty simple to implement. I believe Richie has done this, and a few other builders as well...I have a couple right here, earmarked for my next 2 channel build.
