The best new production 6V6's

Hi Guys,

IMHO, save your pennys and buy the Bendix 5992 made in Red Bank NJ. They were made for the Air Force, VERY rugged, and great sounding. I don't waste my time with any other 6v6 types, and I have NEVER had to replace these very fine tubes.

voted for the JJ's as well. They have the best performance (and they give you the biggest bang for your bucks), can handle up to 470V and sound awesome. I used them in a modified Prosonic (drives the **** out of the tube in Class A Mode) and as well in my 5E3 Homebrew and my TT66 SE Practice Amp...

Actually, they're known to handle up to 500V. At 470V they're just cruisin'...

I sold twenty of these on ebay not that long ago.
Frankly the premium price you pay is not worth it in my opinion.In tube valley they do a review of these tubes they score high for hifi not so great for guitar.
the blue lite in the tubes is cool though

No one tried the brimars? Got a set of those from KNOS tubes and they really sound wonderful! big warm and chimey as hell w/ a sweat top end.I'd put those up against any of the 6v6's nos or otherwise. use them in a homebrew deluxe . Rob

I A/B tested a NOS Brimar and JJ 6V6 in my P1 eXtreme. The Brimar was real good. The JJ was even better, with superior clarity and definition. Both tubes had a great, thick, rock sound. The Brimar is back in my stash, and the JJ is in the amp.

I have several Brimars and they are great sounding, but some will hang at high plate voltages and others don't. They are great when you can hold the plate voltage below 400V and have a very British flavor. I think it depends on the amp you use them in. They aren't my first choice for Fender tones, but are sort of like a little KT-66 and great in a Mark Huss Plexi 6V6 style amp.

Generally though, JJs are a great sounding tube that will take a very high plate voltage. EH's are pretty lifeless. NOS RCA are great in Fenders.
