Now that's funny! We live on opposite sides of the US, but are kindred spirits (in tone if not writing style. ) I host the sgtoverdrive page just so he has a place to park some pix and his e-mail address.

I'll add my endorsement (if the hosting is not endorsement enough), everything I've gotten from him has been great, except one bad Polam EL84, which he promptly replaced, and he gets all kinds of wierd and wonderful NOS.

Yeah it's mighty nice to be able to get NOS that was usually European or Eastern Bloc back in the good ol' days, I'll readily admit to not seein' ANY Polam, Mazda or those funky Russian military EL84s from my usual North American sources. I get "the usual suspects" like Telefunken, Mullard and Amperex, even Valvo every so often but no Polam or RFT.

Oy! Some of those Polam were made under Philips supervision and are GOOD THINGS - even if Polam only make light bulbs these days! So that's one side of the pond - this side we have watfordvalves.com who test a lot and don't sell rubbish, and a few older suppliers who "only sell wholesale" but can be persuaded to let people take things away for cash money. And TAD are with the good guys, even if they do make a profit!

Regarding KCA, I have had NOS 12AX7 and 12AT7 tubes from them go noisy and fail prematurely. My advice is order them when you need them and don't buy them and stash them away as I did. This way you will take full advantage of the warranty period.

It is for these reasons that I don't buy NOS anymore. They are too expensive and from the experience mentioned above I have had better tube life from new production tubes.

Mind you, what comes around goes around. I recently was given eleven NOS 6550's (that does mean FREE!)

So I'm a happy camper!
