Looking for a cheap DMM
Can anyone recomend a reasonably priced DMM that works well? Sure, I'd love to buy a Fluke but that will have to wait. Currently I'm using a rather iffy Radio Shack analog meter and an old Heathkit VTVM. The Heathkit works OK but now that I'm in the process of checking bias and such, a more accurate (OK, maybe just easier to use) meter would be nice.
Thanks for your help

I can hook you up with a used Fluke model 23,73,75,77
or something like that for about 30-50 bucks.
I hit the pawn shops all the time and many a good meter is to be found there.
i know where a 112 or 111 (one has the backlight one doesnt) is located for $79 this is the one i use it has capacitance and true rms which is cool.
If you are interested Ill look tomorrow let me know.
Ill make sure it has a good milliamp scale

Sounds like wiggle may be on to some good deals.
I've been using this Cen-Tech 35017 that I bought from Harborfreight. It's $39.99. It has good ranges for guitar amps. Max AC voltage is 750 and max capacitance is 32.6uf; those could be a little higher. The one minor drawback I had is that the alligator clip leads I was using with my(now deceased) RatShack meter won't fit on the probes of this one.
I've been well satisfied with this one, especially for the price.

Look at the meter Gabi is useing in his pics.. Wavtek 15XL
I don't think it has capacitence..the more expensive one do have that feture..But anyway..the wavtek is a workhorse for the price.
I use a few meters, and i've yet to blow that meter..and its always worked fine for years.. I think i've goe through 2 sets of leads on this meter..
The RS meters..you can go through them pretty quick, and if your going to get something..get something that will last. I've had many RS meters..and some didn't last a week..one little mistake and poof..gone..
Heres a link and pic of the one Gabi is useing.
there 3 flukes at a pawn shop here, one is a table top meter..and 2 hand held. I'd have to look up the model number.

I went by the pawnshop with the Fluke 111.
They made me a deal so i snagged it
It has auto range for all variables and it looks like capacitance to 10000 uF
which is pretty cool. It is in great shape and if you want it its yours for $65 plus shipping, if not i might keep it for a backup in my vehicle. Also I saw a new one on ebay for $80-85 bucks plus shipping .
If anyone else wants it Ill trade it for some cool 18watt parts plus or minus cash.
My ebay name is timolius look up my feedback and email me there if you want.
I can send you a pic of it if i cant post it.
Peace
