Has anyone played a bass through an 18 watt?
Sorry, I haven't searched ont he site to check if anyone has, but has anyone played a bass through one of these amps? I did and I'm truly impressed!
I played my Danelectro Longhorn bass, my Fender Precision, and My Rickenbacker 4001 c64 bass with toaster and horseshoe pickup into the 18 watt in both the normal and TMB channels - wow! This thing gives very nice bass tones even through two Celestion G12L's. Very nice indeed. I haven't read much about people putting their bass through these amps. I don't think it'll hurt the amp will it? Maybe the speakers if they're driven too hard. What do you think? I'll still build a tube bass amp at some point, but it seems to give a pretty good Super Bass sound as it stands now. I get pure Chris Squire tones with the Rick, Great Jack Bruce growl with the Dano, and good John Entwistle roar with the Precision. I'm completely impressed with this amp.

Hey,
This topic hasn't relly come up I don't think. I did play my P-J Fretless through my 18W a while back. I kept the olume low enough that the sound was not too distorted adn I agree, the tone was fantastic. I was very surprised because usually guitar amps don't have good bass tone.
I'm tempted to build a pair of 18W amps for a stereo bass rig but I'd only feed the high end to the 18s. I'd feed the bottom end to a big ole 100w or 200w amp. This way too, you could run stereo effects on the top end and 36W would be enough to get a decently loud top end if they were optimized for clean headroom.

Graydon - Yeah! That does sound liek a great setup! That's how John Entwistle, at least in the early days, got his high and low ends. He would take Marshall heads, and later on Hiwatt heads, and run the highs through a couple of amps and the lows through a couple of others through 15's. Nice!
I actually like a litle bit of distortion or light breakup in the bass. I also like just smooth tones for a bass. I think I may try to build a 50 watt Super Bass knockoff sometime and perhaps do the high/low thing.
Thanks for the reply!
