Can anyone out there help me with some facts on vintage amps

Post by guitarmama »

Hi!
I'm writing a piece about vintage amplifiers for a class. I'm trying to find people who collect them, but so far I've only found people who try to build them. Are there people who collect vintage amplifiers, or is it mainly building amplifiers that attracts people? It seems like collecting them would be an expensive endeavor, unless you were selling them also, or are rich. Maybe someone can hook me up with links to forums, or give me some more info on this. Thanks!

Whoa, so Carl Nielson is the main reason these amps have been getting so expensive!

IIRC Adrian "wannatone" has a pretty impressive collection as well - anyone know the URL for his web site?

Kenny and Bruce have an awesome collection...their site doesn't reflect everything that they have.

They buy, collect, and sell. Kenny has done that since I have known him...20 years. He knows his stuff.

Oh yes, there are many people who collect amps. I guess you'd have to have some money, because they aren't cheap..lol

I have a friend{and member here} who has a site that shows what the prices of the amps would be now, compared to when they were built.
Scroll down and click "amp prices" Now don't get this confused with there collector worth..this is a comparision in dollars, between now and then.

Some collect certian type amps..sears,danelectro.. marshall vox..or hiwatts.. And some go for the weird unusual amps.

Look at the Aspen Pittman Groove Tubes Amp Book also. I think his appreciation articles in there get at the idea of why people collect amps.
