I think you can find it at Ceriatone.com under the 36w product. "RP" stands for Richie Plexi. Great amp.

Can you post some pics of your 36W EF 86 build? Ceriatone doesn't have pics up, yet.

While we're here talking, what are the transformer options for the TMB 36 watt amp (RP)?

I thought Richie used Heybour transformers, but I'v noticed that everyone raves about Shinrock transformers and he makes a set for the 36 watt amp.

Then there are the Ceriatone transformers which have also received favourable reviews.

Yours Sincerely

There is also Trinity, S2, GDS(Heyboer made be his design)...

There's a thread somewhere that described the nuances of each, also talked about the radio spares.... you'd have to search...

My opinion here is: The PT will not affect the sound much at all. The OT will determin the freaquency response... The OT changes the sound but not as much as the speaker OR ENCLOSURE (open back/Closed back) ...speaker size, make, efficentcy, power rating....you choose...

Anyone selling their trasfo's on this forum have great products (As for what I hear).

I have no issues with the Ceriatone iron... other than they are HEAVY. Not SVT head kinda heavy, but VERY well made and beefy. They never get warm even after a few hours of constant playing. Too bad, too... here in Iowa I can use all the warmth I can get right now.

7enderman put Shinrocks in his Ceriatone... but he was already IN Germany, so...

Is it possible to mod the richie amp for more gain if needed?

It's already squeezing a lot of juice. If you look at the png file chubsman posted, the bass pot is a push-pull pot that lifts the tonestack and gives a killer gain boost.

hey everyone...so if you remember correctly, I can solder, I understand layouts (not really schematics) and have done some tweaking to my 36w, 50w, 100w, yba1a.....
So, I know what I'm looking at but I dont know what everything actually DOES....well not EVERYTHING but....

Sorry, ....my question is...howcome Richies layout that Chub built (holla out to my dawg chub) is so different than Nik's? Like Nik's has 4X .01uF caps (I have 5...changed a .022 t0 a .010 to "relieve" some of the bottom end), and Richie's layout is full of .022s more like a marshall or even the 18w layout.??
How do the two layouts differ in tone?
I put all mustards in mine (like Nik's layout..5X .01uF).
I have .022 mustards that I can try in there...or .018s (right in between...sort of).
Anyone tried both layouts and can explain the difference in tone?
Richie?
Thanks.

Hi,

It took me one year to try all those TMB layouts in a test bench (read ugly hand bent chassis and salvaged parts). I was not particularly looking for hi gain, but found most of the layouts were fizzy, and lacked note articulation. I finally settled on the layout found in the 36W dowload section (rev2).

It is interesting to note that with a 18W power section, the tweaked values in the schematic (36W rev5) sounded best (read less fizzy). However it became too boomy when fitted a 36W power section.

So, my final 36W built is actually based on another tweak that Ritchie posted lately in one of the 18W forums, this one is perfect to my ear. All controls are usable even at their most extreme settings. Strat and Tele are not fizzy, Les Paul has lot of punch, and even the Gretsch 6120 is not boomy. Note articulation is very good with all guitars at any setting

Next step, I still have to try that EF86 option.

Tone is a very subjective matter, but I hope this helps.

Isn't this more like a plexi type amp with each channel feeding the 2nd gain stage via seperate mix resistors? I was thinking of trying this with the ef86 channel.

Yes very much so, but it does have thing that design dosen't have.. the normal channel can share, the TMB conntrols like a plexi, but you also have the tone control for the normal channel,or you can lift the tonestack of the TMB,if you just want to use the normal channel with a tone control.
And the feedback switch, this can clean up the amp alot.

In normal plexis people like to bridge the channels, since one is bassy, and one is bright. In the 36,that tone control helps change the sound of the channel. you can make it bright,or bassy.

Plex, what I was thinking was since I bought a ceriatone ef86 chasis, was to make the normal channel ef86 with the 6 way coupling cap selector. since both channels will share the tonestack already. I guess I could try it this way with 470k mix resistors for both channels. I'm just wondering how gainey the ef86 channel would be running into a 2nd gain stage?
