Best EZ-81 Tube Rectifier for an 18 Watt TMB?

Need some opinions from the experts...best EZ-81 tube rectifier for an 18 Watt TMB? I'd love to hear the dabate, if there is one?

Don't know if there's any debate but you can get them NOS or for a lesser pirced new Production tube, JJ is making one. You can get JJ's at Eurotubes or other places.

I've got an NOS RCA in my TMB. Sounds great. I also have an NOS Sylvania and it sounds great also. I really can't tell any difference.

I have tried noname, Mullard, RCA, Sylvania ... there doesn't seem to be a lot of difference, with one exception - a Daltronix marked Made in Japan, which seems to give a little more oomph to the sound. Ordinarily I wouldn't mention it, but only recently someone else mentioned that he got a slightly better sound from a Jap EZ81, so maybe there's something in it ...

I ended up going copper cap in both my TMB and Lite IIb. I needed the tightness/headroom with HB equipped guitars...

I got an nos rca from mike at KCA , he's good at matching the right tubes for a given amp.

I can't tell that it makes much difference. I'm running a NOS Raytheon in mine, but it sounds pretty much the same as a pair of diodes and a dropping resistor.

Here in Jakarta you kinda have to take what you can get...the only EZ81 I could find was National Electronics NOS...haven't fired it up yet but I'm a bit concerned after noticing that it was "Made in India"...

Never heard "glowing" reviews or even any reviews of tubes made in India...anybody experienced Indian tubes?

Maybe a good time to put a fuse on the B+...

Long as it lights up and does'nt give a light show like the 5y3 Sovteks (grrrr) it should be fine. I used a copper cap too on my IIb (headed to corner with large pointy hat) just cause I had it, I'll probably use glass on the TMB I'm doing now. Not to throw any briquettes but the CC was about the price of two ez81's...

I've got a JJ that rattles. You can't hear it through the speaker, but if you play with the volume down you can hear the elements rattling around a little.

Wow that's ace! I've got an ECC81 made in South Korea but I've never seen an Indian valve! Would love to have one for the collection regardless of how good it is!
I'd even swap it for a decent EZ81!

I've got a Bharat Electronics ECC83 that is very distinctive and as good as most GB production. I've heard other people speak well of them, too. There are a lot of high quality things that were made in India, especially since they didn't bother much about copyright for a long time - it just meant they couldn't easily sell things outside India.

**** tubes were made in a factory that was set up by Mullard, and their tubes are very similar to the famous Mullards.

Help me out here - aside from the tube socket, what is the difference between the plugin SS rectifier and a quad of diodes?
