There I was minding my own business when my dad said that he found a Hammond organ. The organ was free so long as you pick it up.So my dad and I went to get it. after opening it up I found a few treasures.

2- Holland made el84s- maybe miniwatts?? These were on the reverb unit which I assume is an AO-35?? looks very similar to the 18 watt chassis.
1- Great Britain made 12ax7- I don't think this is a mule because there is no date code etched in the glass
2- RCA 12ax7s
3- mule 12au7s-B7H3,B9A2,B6J7
1-mule 7247- looks similar to a 12ax7 on the inside???
1- RCA (canada) 12BH7
1- (usa) no name 5U4GB.

Needless to say I am pretty excited. I am gonna try out the Great britain and RCA 12ax7s and the Holland el84s at practice tonight so I'll let you know how they sound.

Just got back from band practice and I have to say my 18 watt sounds the absolute best it ever has with those tubes in it. old stock tubes certainly do have a very nice tone.

alas there was no donor card.

These are 12dw7, an example of use is the late Mark Durham's Vajra. It is a twin triode, with one side 12ax7 and the other 12au7.

Your bass playing friends with SVTs would be interested in that 12DW7 as well. (What am I saying?!?... bass players don't care about tone!)

If there's a 7247 in there, you likely have an M200 series. Should be an AO43 chassis in there, that's the stuff you REALLY want. Tube complement on it will be 5U4GB, (2) 6BQ5's, (2) 12AX7's and one 12BH7. Also a small choke, and 3 cap cans. Take all the tubes off the other little chassis', of course, and hang on to those cool Hepner speakers--one will be voiced for more treble with a whizzer cone. They sound great together as a 2X12. That AO43, BTW, is a TMB 18 Watter just waiting to be transformed. That 7247 is a dual triode, and yes it does look like a 12AX7, and half of it is--the other half is like half a 12AU7.

Thank you very much veets, for the idea. You are exactly right about the reverb unit. I was actually contemplating selling it or making a TMB out of it. and now I believe I will be making a TMB

What has to be done to transform said reverb unit to an 18watt TMB? Do you essentially gut it and put in a new board?

Do these speakers have a decent tone with the 18 watt (are they celestion like at all?)

Sorry for all the questions but it sort of feels like Christmas to me right now.

Actually, the AO43 is not a reverb unit, it's the power amp. M200's didn't have a reverb amp as such. Yup, gut that AO43 and stick in a board populated with TMB bits n' pieces, make a faceplate and drill a few holes for pots and jacks. Done. Nice little weekend project.

Yes, those speakers sound quite good, especially together, 'cuz they are dissimilar. I find the whizzer cone one a little too bright on it's own, and the plain one a little too dark on it's own. Together, they sound really good to me. Not really Celestion tone--they are most often compared in tone to Jensen Alnico's

The Heppner speakers ARE essentially Jensen clones. They were around 20W each in power handling I think. I had a pair just like yours and they sounded best with Fenders IMHO.

So are you going to try to make the organ work, or just part it out? An M200 might not be worth much, but it still has the classic Hammond Organ tonewheel sound. I'd 86 all the power amps, get a Leslie and the appropriate adapter kit, and go to town.

Actually, Mr db, I have already parted out the organ. The organ didn't sound all too healthy when we picked it up. there was some rather loud hum and the compressor?? was making a lot of noise as well from not being lubricated in many years.
