Power Transformer question

Post by SteveinTempe »

:?: Example of the hammond transformer line
What is the best power transformer setup for 1 PAIR el34,
1 5u4
3 12ax7 home brew amp,

I really want the smallest physical size that can
safely drive these guys not looking for super high plate voltages.

Like 420 450 is fine

Thanks
Steve

Hammond 272FX.

The Heyboer might work. It has a 5-volt tap on the rectifier winding. I'm don't know if it supplies enough heater current for the 5U4, but if you know how much the 5U4 draws then you can look up the Heyboer's specs in the downloads section.

The problem I've run into with using Hammonds in the US is high heater voltages. If the Heyboer supplies enough heater current for the 5U4, then I recommend that one.
