Reverb for 18watt

Post by SteveinTempe »

I know this has been talked about but how would reverb best fit
into the 18watt design ?

I was thinking in place of trem I guess I was also looking at
not adding any tubes using the normal channel

adding some mixer /switch setup possibly a single channel amp
with a way to mix /switch in the reverb?

I guess I cant picture it being two channels because you run out of triodes.
I think reverb recovery for the 1/2 of the normal tube
reverb only for the other 12at7 or 12bh7
so it only leaves me with one input..?

I guess also the "reverb recovery side would be nasty distorted if you
bypassed the tank and used it for a second channel
I imagine too much gain..

just thinking about this I am in process on another project amp.
thanks
I will post my circuit if I get it to work
I did try and search first honest.. :)

This has come up a few times, and no one has seen a "real" 18 with reverb..
Also i don't know if this is a typo in the Doyle book, but he says it used an ECC86.. where other amps used the ECL86 And the Data on the ECC86 is pretty weird. You might gety some good ideas from the Artiste model that used reverb..
http://www.drtube.com/schematics/marshall/2040.gif

And with no detail about the 18 reverb, its hard to say how it was designed.
What might be a good idea, is build the fender reverb unit, like the old style with the dwell etc. And alot of amps are built like this. You could mount it in the bottom of the cab. I worked on a Holland amp that was like this, kinda like a bassman, with reverb, and unit mounted in the bottom of the cab. 2x12s and a 10.. the 10 was blended or only used for the reverb. just a thought. I'm not really a reverb or trem user.

or just use a EH Holy Grail pedal..lol

I am not a reverb or a trem person either just seems that I have
been asked about it a lot.. they are both a waste of tube positions
I would rather have a range of voicings for distorted tones
and screw the fufu crap~!
I was looking at the AC15 schematic seems to me you could
build the ef86 section with the brilliant switch
and feed that whole thing to the PI

one channel AC15
one channel marshall

nice!

ps I am working on this reverb thing for someone else!
thanks for the link I will check it out

I think that's a typo myself. I have seen an old Marshall reverb circuit which uses an ECL86, which is basically an EL84 with a single 12AX7 triode inside the same glass.

You may also want to have a look at the 'Backwash Reverb" I mentioned in the other thread, that some of the guys on the AX84 BBS have been trying out, as it only needs one triode to do.

Steve...

I am interested in this also since someone wants an 18 watt Lite, modded with Jason's PI Mod (for more clean headroom - see downloads) and with a reverb on it for a violin.

gab.

I have an amp with a 12bh7 already tied together at the hips
hooked to a transformer and a cap with the rca jacks and all that jazz
I had about 4 of those hammond amps that were in another life
"reverberation amps"
So I plan to use the whole tube and 1/2 of the normal channel
as the reverb recovery I was looking at the The ultimate tone
last night as well as a VOX berkley I dunno ... I will come up with something
but it looks like I will on this amp anyway tube and 1/2
to this reverb bit.

I build the PI last night an fired it up the normal channel is alive
