New 18 watt Red Head Born!

Post by JT »

Thanks to everyone for their help ! I have a few bugs to work out but she powers up .no smoke...and sounds great!... Paul ruby pointed out i had a mis-wired ground and once i fixed it it started up no problems....Thanks Paul!..... Upon startup only one channel was working (tremolo) ...i checked the input jacks on the normal channel and saw that i had soldered the ground lead to both ground and short ...once i snipped a wire both inputs came to life......The bugs i have left to work out is that the tremolo does not work but i suspect that it is mis-wired as to Graydon's recent post. ANd the tone does not seems to work at all on the normal channel...i have to recheck wiring.......all in all i could not have done it without the help of the Amp Experts on this board....i have built two of these and both times i found immense help from everyone..It also turns out i was measuring voltages wrong  ( Thansk Richie) Here are my new readings....not sure if they are spec but this is what i have:

Fuse: 122
Lamp: 122
Power: 122

V1,V2,V3
4/5 and 9 : 6.66

V4,V5 ,V6
4 and 5 : 6.68 (V6 :6.74)

V6
1: 311.8
7: 311.8
3: 286.8

You can see PICs of this amp in the Gallery under JT's Amp...ALso a big thanks to Jeff Swanson for a beautiful Red Cab :)

Glad to hear its working.. and agree.. it looks fantastic!

This also shows how helpful it is to post the pics.. You get more eyes to see things.. and when posting pics..try to show pot hookups and PT hookups, and post voltages.. So another 18 is born..
I too am finishing up a combo amp..already fired it up..just got to put the speaker jacks on the chassis..and trem switch.. Another fantastic sounding amp..
