Graydon, I just remembered this was the guitar show weekend, and i'm sure when you get time you'll fill us in on the details of how the show went.

Hi Ritchie,

I got back earlier tonight. The show was well attended and the response to my amps was fantastic. I had a couple good contacts who may be back for amps or kits in the near future, so I think the show was good overall. There is a _really_ curious thread over on Harmony Central started by a guy who saw my Dumble-clone and snapped a photo of it.

A guy named Jessie Hopkins (www.blueuniverseguitars.com) was set up beside me with his custom guitars on display. He works for Reverrend during the day and builds guitars in the evening under his own name.

There was a '68 100w plexi fullstack with basketweave cabs that was in perfect condition and everything all matched up. The original covers and even the original patch cords were there. It sold for $8000 this afternoon!

Here's a photo of my booth.

Great picture Graydon!

I love that Red chassis! Maybe you need a dovetailed vent-front cabinet . . .

Thanks for spreading the 18 watt word to the world!

Hi graydon!

Wow, that's a real cozy set up at your booth.

I wish I was still in Pittsburgh, and my bro in Kalamazoo, and friends at GMI. I'd sure to drive down to MI and we'd be there..!

Thanks!

Not yet. My amp isn't thirty years old yet. Maybe then someone will pay $8000 and take it home! :D

Well, Graydon got me into this by selling me a kit at the show on Saturday.

I recently built a 5E3 kit, so I guess I just needed something to do.

Oh yeah, I registered here today, this is post #1. Be seeing y'all around.

Welcome Bopper, if you've built the 5E3 kit,you shouldn't have any problem with the 18 watter..Was that one of Bruce Collins 5E3 kits?

Hi Bopper. I had purchased Graydon's kit almost 1 year ago. And there is sat in my workroom over the summer. It was too hard to venture in the basement when the weather was so nice.

Anyway, about a month ago, on a rainy Saturday, I decided to layout all the parts, inspect the kit, and get ready to build. Oh yeah, I read the directions a couple times over and tried to mentally build the amp before actually trying.

Well, from that point on, my wife barely saw me for the next 5 days. I would come home from work, play with my son, and head downstairs to the workroom. 5 days later I emerged with what I think is one of the very top tone machines I have ever played. I had a few minor problems that Graydon helped me out with, and Richie also provided a lot of valuable info, so don't forget to post your question here when you have a problem.

Mr. Swanson is building me a head cab, so I hope to get that and complete this thing 100%.

Anyway, I am now addicted to the 18 watt, playing and building. I hope to build a Lite combo shortly (I originally built the head, and it was my first electronics project ever!).

Anyway, you will enjoy the build just as much as you will enjoy playing it. The best advice I could give is:

Go slow, be precise, and before you solder read, and re-read the directions. Scan ahead a little bit so you know what's coming. Then go slow, then solder.

Good luck and welcome to the club!

Plexi:
My 5E3 kit is from STF Electronics. I should have the cab done in a couple days, then it'll be time to move on up.

fzfwyv (whew, Rich is a lot easier to type):
Very good advice on reading the instructions *more* than once, and especially reading ahead a few steps. All after reading them all the way through a couple times before even starting.
I'm in Royal Oak, by the way.

Thanks for the welcome.

Welcome Bopper!! Yeah, I just finished my first one after building three 5e3'e (sold two) and one 5f6a bassman..... I like the 18watt best!! It has a nice clean sound, the overdrive is impossible to beat and it is twice as loud as my 5E3..... by the way -you should probably go ahead and order a Swanson cabinet. They are absolutely gorgeous!
