Cap types and guitar tone control

Post by ab3640au »

:D A lot has been said about caps/resistors and their impact on tone in an amp, however does this impact any on the types of caps used on tone pots in an electric guitar? Will the use of Mallory's/Spragues/Mustard caps etc impact on tone at all or is it a waste of time. There was a recent post about "bumble bee" caps in early Les Pauls (which suggests that the type of cap might influence the tone some). If so, what MIGHT be best to try in a strat or a les paul? Have any of you experimented with this (other than actual cap values)? What do you think?

Caps make a difference in a guitar ciruit too...go to the LP forum and do a search and youll be up all night reading.....I tried and Orange drop that I had for my 18 build in my LP and it didnt sound as good as what was in it (some run of the mill cap, same value .022). They say the hovlands are the cats ass but I havent tried them yet. I am waitin on a set of PAF replicas and I Am going to really try a bunch of different caps then.
