hth,

Gabi, there IS no "edit" button on this page, at least not with the browser I'm using! (Mozilla). You're running the same software cyberjammin.com uses and I have the same setup there but their "edit" buttons show up fine.
I've tried using another browser with your site (iCab - I'm a Mac user) but your html spews error messages like this with that one:
Warning: session_start(): Cannot send session cookie - headers already sent by (output started at C:\uebrut\18w\themes\Sand_Journey\theme.php:54) in C:\uebrut\18w\modules\Gallery\session.php on line 59

re: Doyle
I'd been thinking about lower power amps for a while, when I ran into Citizen Gene. He'd built an 2 x el84 MacIntyre Bluesbreaker(the GP design) and I thought it was great. Through a 4-12" it was clearly loud enough. That, along with Randall Aiken's ongoing adventures on ampage, was my stimulus. Graydon sent me an email, and suddenly he had the group up. I don't know why Graydon was interested, but I think this group is closer to being the source of interest than any book. I can't see Marshall not RI'ing this amp in the next 3 years. (Will it be any good?)
As to boutiques, I think Blockhead, Aiken, and M&G had 18W derivations on the market at the time. Maybe no one else. I think it was inevitable and the lack of classic recordings is irrelevant. Back in the early 60's before Marshall amps existed, I think the guys with a little money had pushed beyond AC15s into AC30s and there was no going back until the PA/monitor systems caught up. ramble over and out...

I agree - and their later RIs (after the rather poor JTM45 and BluesBreaker RIs) are now very good. BTW English Jim has been selling a bunch of *new* 18W OTs that Marshall had made for them by Drake. He says no one would divulge why these had been made! Hmmm.....

The Vox trannys are also Drake, same as used in the RI Vox amps,i've had quite a few of those in here for repairs, they sound pretty good, but i've replaced alot of transformers in them. Maybe since Korg has marshall And Vox.. but if they were to reissiue the 18, and it was built like any of the RI i have seen, i'd build my own. But i guess they would build them cheaper, less expensive, to make the money from them. I've n ot see may RI amps live up to the old amp they were copying. At least in build quality.

IIRC Drake build quite a lot of Marshall's Xformers for them. I have some Marshall transformers from the early 70s with DE (Drake Engineering) marked on them.

Hi,
I always wonder why that is the case.
I mean, it wont cost em THAT much more to build something of more quality, will it?
It is rather weird not to have more costs, but makes customers happy.
Just how much do they make out of an amp?
But then again, I dont know about their costs (marketing, overheads, etc). Also, I saw the article on price comparison of prices of 60s vs now. Seems equivalent price back then is pretty much "boutique" level for now...
I think they, the big manufacturers, have pretty much formulated what price ranges would be suitable for the average joe, and thus work with that in terms of costs. But with boutique business increasing, maybe we'll see Marshall's own Boutique Dept...
