That brings up a question...how much do you leave up to the sound guy and how much do you take control of when it comes to things like reverb and delay? I may have my delay pedal or verb peda set up for a specific tonel....then the soundguy adds a huge amount of verb to everything, washing the sound out.

Yeah that's kind of a tough call....but...I think it best to let the soundman (if you have one) handle it. As long as he knows what he's doing...it means he has to come to all the rehearsals and stuff. It's tough cause you think that having verb or delay coming out of your amp is cool and helps you play better but...it's kinda like having effects in the vocal monitors. I say NO WAY. You can still hear the effects on your vocals from the fronts, same with the guitar. If the soundman is good, he'll do them right and you'll hear and interact with the effects.
I dont have a soundman so its pedals. Would be way nicer to have someone with total control over the delay and verb...CRANKING it when need be.

When I run sound I dont put delays and 'verbs on the guitars or bass....only the vocals a little...and then, it depends on how the singer is using the mic, and generally how he sounds....sometimes a little verb on the kick and snare too....

Well, I'm in SXSW this year running of the clubs (coordinating bands, schedules, equipment, sound, lights, liason w/ club manager...etc....) I just got back from my meeting w/ one of the SXSW coordinators and got assigned to the club I'm gonna handle....and looked at the schedule.....and guess what??

American Minor is playing MY club!!!! How cool is that? Weird mojo how that worked out...thousands of bands will be here in about 65 different clubs and I get the club w/ one of my bands I've recently been into!

Depends...I remember seeing Saigon Kick when they were a local band in south florida and this is when they were copying the whole Jane's Addiction hard psychadelic "art rock" thing...the sound guy would throw a verb on the kick for certain "canon" effects here and there. In general, though, you're right....verb on the snare, not on the kick.

I'm still stuck on '80s big kinda long decaying verb on the snare. I dont see many bands except on tv and stuff, it seems that the snare verb is gated a bit these days...they decay for a while then SLAM shut!
Live, REAL, wooden, "toney" liveley drums seem to be the thing too these days. That's kinda cool...drummers chasing TONE...imagine that!
And US?...we go backwards lol. The older and more primitive the better. Older guitars, amps, spkrs, effects. I dont like "vintage" sized drums. I like a small kick..like 20X20...What did Bonzo play?...a 28 or something? Are THOSE comming back anytime soon? Maybe?
Oh well....I gotta go start packing up my rig so I can move it to the gig myself, then go to the drummer's place and pickup the "gear" then set it up, then soundcheck it, then come home, eat, shower, go gig, tear down, load-out, offload the trucks, go home unload my rig....
all that for a measley $250!! I "COULD" just go to WORK instead. It's Saturday (time and a half) so I'd only have to stand behind a lathe for 5 hours to make the same $$$!

I'm by FAR not the best guitar player around...bass player isnt fancy and neither is the drummer. I have to do all the singing too and I'm NOT a lead singer. I have like zero range. All that said, We ROCK!!! We pack the places, people who didnt even want to be there end-up STAYING (that's the BEST one) and we have a following. I know our weaknesses so we concentrate on filling things out with dynamics and vocal harmonies. song selection is "paramount" for us.
Is grey the BEST color? is blue? yellow? red??? Personally I like green the best but it's made of blue and yellow. Green lights blow...unless they're with blue..then they're awesome. It's all about the big picture and how all the colors blend and interact. You only really need red blue and yellow to make every other color. Geeze..you think I might be off on a bit of a tangent here?? It's just that I've always thought of "primadonna" guitarplayers in that way. If it were up to them, the whole canvas would be bright red!!!
Not saying that about any of you fellas at all...you know the kind of guy I mean though...takes every solo...is way loud....
The drummer is like the eizel though and without that foundation the painting has nothing to stand on. To me, as long as the eizel is rock solid, I dont need one with 8 legs and neon lights.

There will be an 18 TMB combo[with the secret sauce] in the shows coming up,,starting tomorrow night in Va.
Going to try and get a Wreck head finished for the shows in W.va if the transformers come in time.
