hi, my valves blew again the other day and i dont know what to get.
so far i have had svetlana EL34s with marshall ECC83s which had a glassey, defined tone but it lacked any balls.

then i tried JJ EL34s and electro harmonix ECC83s, these had a bit too buch high endand sounded harsh and brittle. I had a muddier tone too but the amps balls did grow a bit.

what im looking for is probably in the middle of these tones, thick, warm, glassey, defined and aggresive.

i have a marshall TSL100 by the way.
thanks.

Use SED (Winged C) EL34s and either Shuguang Chinese 12ax7s or JJ ECC83S for preamps. I like a combination 2 Chinese and 1 JJ. This will get you a good classic Marshall tone.

However, if you are "blowing up" tubes, you need the amp checked and bias set. This is not normal.

thery're not exploding, one of them went bright orange though a made funny noises. i did check the bias though anyway, it went from 70 to 200+ mV with in 5 mins, so i turnd it off before it did explode.

You've either got a really bad tube or a bad component in the amp. Time for it to visit the bench and get checked out.

will do, should i change the valves before i get it serviced? i dont want them to just change the vlaves for them to go again 2 months later.
