Have a pair of EL84's. Any clue if these are decent or not?

The markings are well... russian.

OTK 2 X 82 and 6N14N-EB 1082 and OTK4

The 6N14N-EB is supposed to be a low noise, heavy duty version of an EL84 that is similar to a 7189 or EL84M. I've never heard them before, but I read that they are supposed to be very good sounding. Let us know what you think after you try them out.

also, on the box, it is hand written EL84M.

I won several of these early Russian tubes on ebay a while back. They were sent from Russia and the guy said they were from the early 60's.

I have about 16 of them, used. Only problem is matching. I was told they were tested and each tube has a sticker, ranging from 10,600 to 12,800 mmhos.

I don't know what this means but I match the closest reading and played them in my 18 watt. They do sound very good but I get the best sound by picking one and then keep changing the other to get the best tone...?

After a while and with chance I get two that sound good. Nice bass and not so bright sounding. They also have a diamond printed on one side with lettering and numbers at the points.

I was wondering about these tubes also...?

Yes, that's what they are with the diamond.

Now I can't wait to finish the Trinity, to hear them.

The "EB" or "EV" markings are the EL84M, or military version, somewhat more sturdy than the usual Sovtek specimens. Some say they are not that great-sounding. I used them in a Vox clone, dissipating 14 watts at idle,
mainly for the better build quality and found them to be very toneful.

I have a set of the russian 6n14n-EB's with the diamond that I got from the sarge in the Trinity SIII I built for my nephew. We both think that they sound very good.

If I remember right, the sarge said that the tubes made up until the 80's (I think, whenever the soviet union started to disolve and it was everyone for themselves) were good, anything mid 80's til now the quality is much lower.

Also, they know that the earlier tibes are better and that they are saying anything that is available is from the "correct" time period.

okay, now I'm getting excited. I'm waiting for my Trinity SIII kit and maybe I have some useful tubes.

I know the feeling, I just got the transformers for MY SIIIv6 in the mail yesterday. Now I just have to be patient until Stephen gets his parts order in.

Trinity is also making the head and extension cab for me, can hardly wait.

The SIII sounds real good when my nephew is playing my new R8, I got to quit posting and practice more, he's way better than I am. He has three amps, some sort of multi-channel solid state heavy metal amp, a peavey 30 watt all tube and the Trinity. His favorite is the Trinity (through a 4 X 12), also sounds real good with his acoustic electric.

In Latin characters the designation would be 6P14P-EV. The "p" sound in the Cyrillic alphabet is represented by a character that looks like the mathematical pi symbol.
