I am new here.

I am looking for el84's that are not so rattle crazy as the GT's that I find easy enough to get.

Any ideas for rattle free, or rattle reduced tubes for a combo cabinet?

I have tried various home-brew dampers, but the effect is minimal.

I have sent an e-mail to what I belive is the correct e-mail for sgtoverdrive, but maybe it is an old e-mail, or maybe he is out of the supply bizz.

Be sure your retainers are not touching the tubes except on the top & that they are tight.

Thanks. The retainers are OK, it is definitely a rattle from inside the tubes. I have also tried dampers on both areas where the mica touches glass.

If anyone has tried a brand of tubes, new or NOS that are less internal rattle prone, I'd love to hear about it.

Chris, I had the same problem with new JJ and GT EL84s, it was making me crazy in addition to costing me loads to replace 'em. I finally got a pair of NOS Teslas from Sarge and that solved the noise problem, plus they're a really nice sounding pair of tubes. He also had some miniwatts that I'd eventually like to try.
