bass amps???

hello,
well im goin to get my first bass guitar soon, and i think i need an amp, and i would love it if i could build one so here are a few Qs. is there a place i could find some bass amp schematics to build? whats the difference bettween a guitar amp and a bass amp? would it be possible to mod a 18 watter for bass duty? thanks

im not expert, but i would suspect that 18watts wouldnt cut it for bass..

even like Ampeg V4-Bs (100watt tube) will need some help on a lot of gigs. again that depends on your style, some players want to be mic'ed some hate it.

I perused some Ampeg V4 and SVT (300watt all tube) schematics and tehres just no way theyd be cost effective. they have complicated preamps and giant power amp sections.. its just a ton of hardware.

but it all depends on your intended use i guess

I plugged my bass into my 18W 2-10 combo once. At very low volumes, the tone was excellent. I was surprised actually as guitar amps do not usually sound good with bass. but, it sounded really nice. However, the volume wasn't even close to being loud enough for anything other than playing along with a single acoustic guitar, unamplified. You need hundreds of watts to play serious bass guitar. I'd say 4 6550s minimum for 200watts. Preferably, you'd double that for 400 watts.
