Question about speaker cable length

I'm planning on taking my 18 watter to the studio for some recording. Want to finally make use of it's bluesy sounds. After all, why did I build this amp?
This time I want to try putting the speaker in an isolation room and keep the amp in the console room to tune the sound by listening to it through the monitors. Also want to play a little with microphone positioning and such. This will involve me using an ~20'-25' speaker cable... My output transformer is Hammond 125E. I wonder is there's any problems with using such a long speaker cable? Should it be of higher gauge perhaps? Like 16? And of course - will the output transformer experience any problems with such a long cable to drive?
Thanks in advance!

While I'm no expert, I'd suggest making up a suitable length cable from either audio (hi-fi) speakercable or 2core electrical mains cable. Don't bother spending a massive amount on 'name' speakercable, at guitar frequencies there's not really much point.

Other than that, it might be worth asking the studio you're using if they have cabling in place already.

Hope this helps...G

I can give you my experience with this. I run 2 monster cables that are both about 35 feet long back to my 2 4x12 cabs. I have both my heads in a road case that I keep on the side of the stage. Then my pedalboard cables are shorter, and they run to the side of the stage in front of everything and are not in anybody's way when performing. I dont notice any difference in the sound of my rig at all with these cables and the length. Id say go with a quality cable and you wont notice the difference either. Ive read posts of people claiming this isnt efficient, and you lose low end response this way and im not equipped to argue that point, but I feel I have a pretty good ear, and I just dont hear the difference. I do think if you had a choice, maybe shorter is the way to go, but ive seen many concerts where the player had their heads off to the side of the stage like this......good enough for them, good enough for me! :D
