VJ Head, this is just Too Weird !
Hey Guys
I bought 2 VJ heads (for a stereo rig) 5 weeks ago, and today, at different times, both Power Transformers blew.
I took them to a tech and he says that their filament winding is intermittant, you could see it on the scope as he would move the wires.
I've already been modifying the cabs, so no warranty luck here.
Anyone know of an appropriate replacement PT, and any recommendations on where to buy ?
Thanks for any feedback, feelin' burned out ! ...sully

There has been discussion about the fuse holders in the orange wires that go to the heater supply that act up. Have you tried sanding them or cleaning the contacts yet? Mine failed about 8 months after I got it and it was a quick fix. Not the fuses themselves, but the brassy looking contacts have a laquer coating on them that prevents full current through them.
I am not saying that you DIDN'T blow up your transformer, I am just saying give these a look.

Sully,
When you say "Filament" winding, do you mean the 6.3v (orange wires, one with a fuse) heater filament wires? If so, there is a well know issue with those crappy fuse holders. If, that is where your problem is, then remove the fuse and scrape and clean the contacts in the fuse holder, then replace the fuse and try it. That might be all that is wrong.

I am not certain, but I think this is the item if you need a new PT:

This seller puts them up for sale pretty regularly, but no active auction at the moment. He also sells the OT and the chassis. He never mentions a particular brand. I hope you can fix it, but, if not, maybe this will help.
