Tesla Hexies are awesome in my 18 watter. I like them better than mullards! I have two pair of polams but havent tried them. How do they compare to the hexies?

+ 1. The hex plates Teslas sound better in my 18 Watter than my Mullards. Current production El 84's I like TAD, JJ and EI. I can't stand the Sovteks though I must state that I haven't tried their new EL84M mil spec tube.

Hello
I don't have a 18 watts yet (i have a slightly different projetct, and it will be a 12-15 watt i guess), but i tried some EL84 in my customized Loredo.
I.E : Sovtek, EH, 6p14P, and JJ.
The JJ are the obvious winner, more mids, more power (to my ears it seeems to have more power), great sparkling R'n roll overdrive.
The EH ares just at the second place for me, softer, the others are pieces of crap imo.

From what I have read here, basically you can an EL84 in just about any flavor, depends on what you want or like.
I had a thought about using 2 completely different sounding tubes in the amp at the same time.
I currently have a set of "Peavey" Sovteks which are realy transparant, too much so for my tastes, and a few 6b16b's which are a bit too muddy for my tatses. I'm going to try and use one of each in the amp (TMB) and see what it sounds like.
I've been putting off installing a VVR, but that would be a better way to test the thing.
