shielding foil in your heads?

Some do, some don't. Is it really all that effective?

I know shielding works well in guitar cavities but is it really necessary in an amp head? If so, what do you use for shielding?

One of my hand-built (booteek) heads has aluminium foil - looks like a squashed baking tray!

Cheers ...

Most of us use sheet metal on the bottom to the cab... kind of the lead on the chassis.

It helps, especially when you put the amp on top of another amp or other electronic gear.

I've used sheet and foil and both are effective.

If you're going to install foil or sheet metal as a shield I suggest that it make good electrical contact with the chassis.

Stewart MacDonald has copper shielding paint, kinda pricey, but perhaps a more elegant method of doing the job than Reynolds foil.

Personally I think their products are priced in "Ripoff" range, if someone knows of a similar product for cheaper please post it here.

Home Depot has adhesive backed aluminum tape (not duct tape) that is pretty substantial with a heat resistant adhesive. The stuff is is used for sealing seams on furnace ducting. It works great and stays put.

I'm cheap. I use heavy duty kitchen-type aluminum foil. Tear the foil against a straight edge to size. Smear Elmer's glue on the wood with a bit of cardboard as a squeege. Then apply the foil and rub it down with a rag. Works great. Almost free. No nasty sharps to cut yourself on.

Nothing wrong with the other things people suggested except cost and sharp edges.

I use either sheet metal, or the a/c heating tape that what_wires suggests. Both work fine.
