Any Amp Gurus in Central FL?
Hello,
I've been a prisoner of solid state amps my whole life (presently own a Roland JC-55) and was in the market for a nice tube amp. But also, I was wanting to know if there were any 18 watt freaks in my area (Central Florida) that wouldn't mind a Robin Trower fan hanging out with them, helping out, and and learning a few things along the way. I'd also be willing to lend some of the instruments/recording equipment I have if need be to try and make it worth your while. Oh I forgot, I bet none of you 18 watters use digital recording equipment because of the stiffness of it. I agree, but that's all I have to work with for now. I DO have various Strats, a Music Man and Precision basses and a plug-in nylon string acoustic. Hey, maybe just to get together and jam a bit. We can work up "Sylvia" by Focus, one of the greatest instrumentals ever recorded.
Ok, I've rambled enough here, but mainly, I just want to be able to try out one of these 18 watters before I drop that much money on one.

I'm no guru by any means but I love building tube amps.
Amp building can become very addicting so consider yourself warned.
My 18 watt project will be the fifth tube amp I've built so far. I'm just waiting for the trannies to arrive.
If you want to build your own amp all the information you need is right here at the 18 watt community.

Well, I'd love to, but I don't even own a soldering iron yet, and I live in an apartment. I may have to just buy an 18 watter and be done with it. But then again, I live in an apartment. Heck, I live in Florida - I'll just find out where Skynyrd rehearses and drag it there.Tim said: If you want to build your own amp all the information you need is right here at the 18 watt community.
I just may take you up on that. Hey, isn't Skynyrd from Jacksonville where you are? I think a couple of them went to Robert E. Lee High School where Leonard Skinnard was their Phys Ed coach. I think he objected at first to them having his name for the band. Boy, am I rambling now.Artie said: Heh - well, if I ever get one built, you can come over and play.

Yup, as a matter of fact, my house is located about a couple hundred yards from where Ronnie Van Zant is buried. His wife operates a bar over at "the beaches" thats called the Freebird Cafe.
Right now I play exclusively through a Johnson J-Station, into a mixing board. Which is why I'm chomping at the bit to get a tube amp. But one thing at a time. I gotta quit buying guitars.

If I treat you to several good lunches and a good compilation CD (made with a REAL burner, not a computer mp3 crap) of a myriad of great music I have, can I come watch you build part of your amp if I don't ask too many stupid questions?
I live in Lakeland, of course....not too too far away.

Well shoot, I just live over in Lakeland. Was looking to form a band also. Are you interested in possibly talking about musical influences and then possibly jamming? I'm into Robin Trower, Wishbone Ash, Jeff Beck, King Crimson (of course), old old Genesis and old old Fleetwood Mac.dd3keegs wrote:Hey...I'm a newbie like you. Still trying to narrow down which build to try first. I like the TMB. Let me know when if you get an 18 watt. I'd be interested in checking it out.
If you are not interested in that, I'll still let you check out my 18 watter if I get it in the next month or two.
