best size chassis

Hi you All!
I am taking the next step in building a 36WATT Amp now.
Ever since I favor Amps in small size, I was wondering what the
minimum measures for a 36Watt Amp chassis would be, without
getting unwanted side-effects like humming, or other unwanted Problems
that would relate to a smaller size. Usually one would use a 18" x 6,5" x 2,5"
Chassis to fit in the 36WATT amp, but would it hurt to reduce the 18" to somewhat
16" ???
